Rion brings Brookfield to life!

Brookfield Infant School were delighted when International Athlete Rion Pierre turned up at their school for a fun-filled fitness event. The whole school were up on their feet, being led by Rion in various Olympic style circuit exercises and cheering each other on.

After getting very hot, everyone was ready for a rest and the whole school gathered to hear an inspirational assembly led by Rion. He even got people up on their feet again by getting them involved in some demonstrations. Watch the videos!

Lawrence lands in Loddon

Team England captain Danny Lawrence, who won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, has made over 40 British international appearances and competed at three European and three world championships.

He visited Loddon School to work with pupils on some fitness exercises, before rounding off the day with a display of his impressive gymnastic skills.

A spokesman from the school said: “The children were very excited to meet Danny. It was a very inspirational visit and the children enjoyed asking him questions about how they can become international superstars. Sports for Schools brings the country’s top athletes into primary schools around the country to inspire children to get involved in sport.”

Roebuck stirs up ripples at Rowley

Olympic Swimmer Joe Roebuck made a special visit to Rowley Hall Primary School for a ‘brilliant and inspiring day for the children’.

To begin, all the children took part in an exhausting fitness circuit, with Joe Roebuck demonstrating how to perform the exercises. The hall was buzzing with cheering and music, to encourage everyone to give it their all. After all the children had passed through the circuit, Joe carried out a talk about himself and his successful career.

Joe has represented Great Britain at a range of International Competitions, including being part of the swimming team at London 2012. The children got the chance to hear about the hard work and dedication that is needed to be a success in sport. They also saw a selection of medals that Joe has won during his career.

Miss Smith from Rowley Primary said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all the children and their families that brought in sponsorship money for this event. As a school, we raised a massive £1,797!! This money will go towards new sports equipment for the children to use in their PE lessons.”

‘Failure isn’t final’! Luke Lennon Ford leads the way for the next generation

St Peter & St Paul CofE Primary School received a special visit from GB athletes Luke Lennon Ford and Rion Pierre. They loved the fitness circuit and were grateful for the time to catch their breath while they listened to 400m runner Luke give an assembly about his journey as an athlete. 3-times Olympian jumps into Viewley Hill Primary School

The long jump champion moved around the hall as every pupil in the school completed a sponsored fitness circuit to raise money for their PE Equipment. Chris Kirk, Sportivater on the day (and also a GB international long jumper himself) put the school through their paces as even teachers joined in the fun. To crown it all off, Chris T ran an inspiring assembly in which he showed just how far he can jump (the almost the full width of the hall), and shared his story with the pupils. Against Doctor’s Orders! Lee Whilteley sprints into Salford School

Jo Thomas, Deputy Headteacher, was delighted to watch every pupil at the school enjoy working through their fitness circuits supported by paralympian Lee Whiteley. “A genuinely lovely guy” who was “inspirational”, she tells us. Not one that Lee will forget, as the whole school evacuated for a fire alarm (toast burning!). The children were treated to an inspiring assembly in which Lee explained all about his disability, the challenges of becoming an elite athlete (against doctor’s orders). Some lucky children were invited up to compete a reaction test against Lee and their teachers. As always, Lee says, “the Q&A session produced some fantastic questions – ones that always get me thinking!”.

Nathan Fox inspires pupils at Bedfont school

Commonwealth Games triple jumper, Nathan Fox, hopped skipped and jumped into Marjory Kinnon School in Middlesex to lead some inspiring fitness circuits. School PA Amanda Baldwin said: “Students were sponsored by their family and friends to take part with the money going back into the schools’ physical education and sports program.”

Nathan gave a terrific and inspiring assembly at the end of the circuits, inviting the pupils to complete some practice drills with him, and measured out his triple jump personal best (longer than the hall in which the event was held!). He talked about his training program, his inspiration to take up athletics, and the importance of the food that we eat (“we are what we eat”).

Nathan joined the Sports for Schools scheme to help give back to the sport, while the scheme helps Nathan with the costs of his training and competitions.

Team GB athletes sprint into Alec Reed Academy

Team GB sprinters Luke Lennon-Ford and Rion Pierre bounced in to the Alex Reed Academy in Middlesex to help the school raise money for PE Equipment.

Peter Hammer, PE Coordinator tells us “The children had a fantastic day where they were motivated by the athletes’ stories and engaged with them through fitness and lots of fun”.

Everyone of the 600+ pupils joined Luke and Rion in completing their fitness circuits before being treated to an inspirational assembly. Awesome event team!

 

Tae Kwon Do Olympian Jibreel Malik demonstrates supreme control

Check out this video on YouTube to see Jibreel mesmerising the children as he demonstrates extraordinary precision and control working through his Tae Kwon Do routine. Jibreel was visiting Mitchell Brook Primary School as part of the Sports for Schools scheme that brings the country’s top athletes into primary schools to inspire children around the country to take up more sport and lead life to the full.

Danny Lawrence vaults into Abbots Green Primary School

Commonwealth Games Silver medallist Danny Lawrence visiting the wonderful Abbots Green Primary School in Suffolk. Awesome kids all putting in 100% effort in their fitness circuits encouraged by Danny who later inspired them with his story – and his trademark backwards summersault with a twist.
